In January, 1955, plans were drawn for a 40-bed hospital to be constructed and fully-equipped at an estimated cost of $550,000. |
Ceremonies on September 24, 1959 marked not only the dedication of a community-oriented hospital but the celebration of a dream, as well.
Pleasant Valley Hospital, at that time, was composed of two levels, with one-story wings extending from each side. Provisions for expansion were included when the contractor completed the final layout plans.
In 1969, the addition of a new wing doubled bed capacity and provided for a new Obstetrics Department and nursery, Radiology Department, Physical Therapy Department, operating rooms, kitchen, cafeteria, conference room, chapel, entrance and lobby. In
1972, a five-bed, semi-circular, glass-enclosed Intensive Care-Coronary Care Unit was completed and, in 1976, the south Tower opened, adding eight physician office suites and 76 beds.
The Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, a 100-bed skilled nursing facility, opened in 1978 to serve the needs of the elderly and convalescent in the community. Currently, PVNRC also offers Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy. The $2 million facility is located on the campus of Pleasant Valley Hospital.
In 1984, a $1.9 million Medical Office building, adjacent to the hospital, with a capacity for 24 physician offices, was dedicated. Also at this time, the main lobby was renovated and a gift shop, currently operated by the PVH Auxiliary, was added.
In 1985, Pleasant Valley Home Medical Equipment, 1011 Viand Street, opened its doors to answer a community healthcare need for durable medical equipment. Focusing on healthier lifestyles, PVH constructed an employee-community Wellness Center in 1985. However, in 1994, the newly-named Wellness and Rehab Center was housed in a renovated building.
The Wellness and Rehab Center currently offers equipment for complete body workout, a free-weight room, a sauna, group exercise classes and computerized exercise programs. In addition, the Wellness and Rehab Center provides patients with Physical Therapy and Cardiac Rehabilitation Services.
In 1995, PVH expanded its facility with Project 21, adding 14,200 square feet of new building and 12,000 square feet of remodeled area. Of that, two buildings feature new Surgery, Pediatrics, Intensive Care-Coronary Care and Labor, Deliver, Recovery and Post-Partum (LDRP) units. The overall cost of the project was estimated at $4 million.
Fueled by a tremendous growth in programs, new technology and renovations, Pleasant Valley Hospital has emerged as a leader in community healthcare.
PVH was the first healthcare facility in the Tri-County area to offer lithotripsy for the non-surgical removal of kidney stones and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). "The Family of Professionals" became the first to offer single-room, family-centered maternity care, ultrasonic removal of cataracts and Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy, the gallbladder removal surgery that allows for less pain, reduced scarring and faster recovery.
Other services provided by Pleasant Valley Hospital include, CT Scanning, Echocardiography, Intensive/Critical Care, Laboratory Services, Mammography, Obstetrics, Outpatient Services and Surgery, Physical Therapy, Radiology, Ultrasound, Cardiac Diagnostics and much more in cooperation with our staff of physicians in a variety of medical specialties.
A progressive attitude on the part of the PVH Board of Trustees and Medical Staff enables this community-oriented healthcare facility to offer these services to patients, along with a vast array of programs to meet the total healthcare needs of the area.
Pleasant Valley Hospital is committed to providing the people of the community with quality healthcare. We are the "Family of Professionals" doctors, nurses, technologists, trustees, receptionists, housekeeping attendants, patient care hostesses and all of the others who add special touches to make distinct differences. Dedicated to a continual wave of progression, Pleasant Valley Hospital has become the community's best provider of healthcare services. |
